If you’re wondering what the story is behind Nadi & Me, this is for you. 🙂 This small business was officially founded in 2017, but the story really begins five years prior.
Back in 2012, my husband left for deployment with the U.S. Navy- just days prior to our daughter Nadia’s first birthday. It was during that time that I discovered the joy of memory-keeping. Because I knew my sailor was going to miss milestone after milestone of his precious child’s life, I committed to documenting a story from each day in an album.
I presented that book to him as a gift when he finally arrived home 281 days later, and as he read through it- watching his baby grow older right before his eyes with each subsequent photograph- he told me that having that album significantly bridged the gap that took place from the time he deployed until the time he was back in our reach.
Truthfully, I began the project merely thinking that I was just making a gift for the man I love. But I had no idea that it would also impact me. It ruined me for anything else. No longer could I idly sit back and live without writing our stories. Never again would I leave my photographs unprinted and lost on a hard drive. To this date, I have never once even considered this to be a phase or a trend that would soon die out when I grew tired of it. In fact, my desire to document our lives has only grown stronger. And it all started during the eleven months that it was just Nadi and me.
To me, this is much more than a handmade small business. I believe that something significant happens when we allow ourselves the time to reflect, write, and learn to appreciate what’s right in front of us.
- I believe it can strengthen the bonds we have with the people that matter the most to us.
- I believe it can increase our faith and bring us some much needed calming and relaxation in our crazy, busy lives.
- I believe that there is great value in printing the photographs we take and looking at them together with the people we love.
- I know firsthand that journaling both the funny and the sad moments is incredibly therapeutic.
- And I wholeheartedly believe that no one can write your story better than you!
And as for me, I hope that in the years to come my sweet Nadia will still love looking through our own personal library of albums and journals as much as I do. I hope to find her laughing at our silly photos, finding comfort in the words penned in ink, and joyfully reliving the irreplaceable moments she had with her mama + daddy + houseful of cats.
Our family bond is the source of inspiration behind all I do, but I gratefully and humbly give every bit of glory to God for the life I’ve been given! However, I love and empathize with the many others in this world that have a very different story than my own, so the Lord Jesus put the desire in my heart to give a percentage of the proceeds wherever I feel a need & sense His calling- whether it’s to a homeless shelter, a specific family, a child sponsorship program, an autism organization (such as Bittersweet Farms here in NW Ohio), a women’s pregnancy center, a non-profit for grieving families after infant loss, or any others. There are many causes and ministries that are near and dear to my heart, and I want nothing more than to let God use me in any way I can to share His great love with those who desperately need to feel a Divine touch.
Thank you for partnering with me and my business so together we can make this happen! I look forward to telling my story alongside of you.
XOXO, Marybeth (and Nadia)
